Reach the World Brings the Most Remote Areas of the World into the Classroom Using Zoom

Reach the World is a New York–based nonprofit that connects underserved K–12 classrooms with travelers and explorers to bring real-world, global learning into schools. The organization struggled with a legacy video platform (Google Hangouts) that required accounts, lacked attendee tracking and moderation controls, and often failed to perform over the extremely limited satellite connections used by remote expeditions like the Weddell Sea mission.

After testing multiple platforms, Reach the World chose Zoom for its superior performance on constrained satellite links and its security and meeting-management features (registration, Waiting Room, participant mute). Using Zoom, RTW delivered live weekly broadcasts from remote expeditions, improved reliability and safety for student sessions, and expanded its ability to offer formative, inspirational global learning experiences.
