A Zoom Video Communications Case Study
North Carolina Central University School of Law in Durham, NC uses its Virtual Justice Project to deliver pre-law courses and community “Know Your Rights” sessions, but its legacy video tool suffered frequent disconnections and limited visibility, especially for students on home or 3G connections. That instability, plus a lack of engineering support, made it hard to teach large classes or provide a consistent remote learning experience.
NCCU replaced the legacy system with Zoom Meetings and Zoom Rooms, piloting large first-year classes (~60 students) and rolling it out campus-wide. The reliable platform let professors see and engage students in real time, supported screen sharing and remote appointments, enabled virtual community outreach, and allowed in-person classes to convert to virtual during inclement weather—resulting in dependable virtual instruction and broader access to legal education for students and communities.
