A Zoom Video Communications Case Study
Nihon University, Japan’s largest university with 16 faculties and campuses nationwide, faced a rapid shift to online learning in 2020 due to COVID-19. The university needed to roll out a unified platform—96,000 student and 10,000 faculty licenses—quickly for the September term while addressing wide variations in faculty IT skills and multiple, already-divergent local systems.
Working closely with Zoom’s Customer Success Manager team, Nihon University implemented Zoom across the institution, delivered targeted training and monthly symposia (drawing ~500 faculty), and moved large events—like the 16,000‑student World Café—online. The rollout improved cross‑faculty collaboration, enabled innovative teaching practices and hybrid class designs, and opened new opportunities to overcome geographic limits and accelerate the university’s digital transformation.
