A Zoom Video Communications Case Study
The Dorm is a New York City and Washington, D.C. treatment center for young adults that had to rapidly pivot to virtual care during the COVID-19 pandemic. After moving hundreds of weekly sessions online, the team faced a new challenge when reopening in-person: running hybrid group therapy where remote participants could see and hear an entire room—masked participants, 360-degree views, and reliable audio proved difficult with basic cameras and microphones.
The Dorm implemented Zoom Rooms with DTEN devices and is exploring multi-screen setups plus Zoom’s Smart Gallery to create true 360-degree hybrid group spaces with one-touch joining and AI-driven individual video tiles. The result: uninterrupted, flexible care (including a virtual clubhouse and ~900 weekly sessions at peak), more inclusive hybrid groups, and plans to design new facilities purpose-built for hybrid mental health treatment.
