How One University is Using Video Conferencing in its Quest to Enhance Grade School Literacy

The University of Northern Iowa’s Jacobson Center for Comprehensive Literacy (JCCL) needed a better way to connect faculty, literacy coaches and school administrators across widely dispersed Iowa districts. Distance, frequent travel constraints, and earlier “clunky” video tools that caused audio problems, account barriers and network issues made it hard to provide ongoing training, coaching and collaboration for K–12 literacy initiatives.

UNI deployed Zoom (including on-site Meeting Connector and Room Connector) to provide a simple, interoperable platform that works on desktop, mobile and room systems and traverses restrictive networks. The result: more flexible, frequent meetings with less travel, smoother coach–teacher collaboration, successful student project work, and expanded statewide and national partnerships — making Zoom central to JCCL’s ongoing outreach and instruction.
