How Animal Farm Foundation Fights Loneliness, Social Isolation During COVID-19 with Pets Together Program

Animal Farm Foundation is a New York–based nonprofit that trains and donates service and detection dogs—especially working with dogs labeled as “pit bulls.” During COVID-19, the organization saw that seniors in assisted‑living and group homes were suffering increased loneliness and social isolation and needed connection and companionship.

In response, Animal Farm launched Pets Together, a free virtual program that uses Zoom to bring sanctuary animals (goats, geese, dogs, cats, and more) into scheduled, host‑facilitated visits. Facilities sign up at PetsTogether.org, hosts tailor visits to residents’ interests, and staff control video feeds so everyone can engage; the result has been consistent, heartwarming interactions that reduce isolation and stress, give caregivers new insights into residents, and positively impact seniors across the country.
