Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children Builds a ‘Hospital Without Walls’ Using Zoom & Epic in the NHS

Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children (GOSH) in London is a leading paediatric centre of excellence serving 63 specialties. When COVID-19 hit, GOSH needed to rapidly implement secure, user-friendly video capabilities to keep delivering care to vulnerable children and maintain communication and operations for remote and in-person staff.

GOSH deployed Zoom Meetings and Zoom Webinar and fully integrated Zoom with its Epic electronic patient record in eight days for 5,000 users, enabling virtual scheduling and secure launches within existing workflows. Video visits grew from under 1% to 24% of outpatient appointments in 2020–2021, supported staff training and communications, and earned strong clinician and patient-family endorsement—helping create a lasting “hospital without walls.”
