Citizen Science Thrives On Zoom

Counter Culture Labs (CCL) is an open biotechnology community that makes science accessible through public education and collaboration with DIY bio groups worldwide. CCL runs activities from advanced projects (like decellularizing a heart) to a biweekly DIYbio Coast‑to‑Coast journal club, and needed a simple, reliable way to connect diverse participants across multiple locations and share their work online.

CCL adopted Zoom for its ease of use, seamless sign‑in for many users, and built‑in recording features, allowing sessions to be posted for public learning. The result: regular cross‑country meetings that bring together professionals, hobbyists, and educators, wider access to recorded discussions, and plans to use Zoom recordings to showcase lab experiments like a “cooking show” to expand outreach.
