A Zoom Video Communications Case Study
CARE Network, developed by Acacia Living and deployed by LivHOME, set out to make aging in place safer and more connected for at‑home seniors amid a growing shortage of caregivers. The challenge was providing reliable, face‑to‑face telepresence from a fixed home kiosk—overcoming limited viewing angles and the usability limits of smartphones—while meeting healthcare security and compliance requirements.
CARE Network integrated Zoom’s video platform and API/SDK with Kubi telepresence stands to remotely position an iPad for natural, controllable video visits; the simple kiosk interface requires virtually no training and remains HIPAA‑compliant. The solution enabled more frequent supervisory visits, check‑ins, provider introductions and family calls, and produced tangible outcomes—most notably a remote intervention that stabilized a choking client, avoided an ER visit (saving an estimated $12k–$20k), and improved ongoing care coordination.
