City of North Port Solid Waste Division Increases efficiency and reduces community complaints

The City of North Port Solid Waste Division, serving more than 70,000 residents with a 40+ person crew and a fleet of over 50 trucks, faced rising operational challenges as the city grew. Frequent complaints about missed streets and excessive driver speeding made it difficult for supervisors to monitor locations, speeds and routes and to ensure consistent, cost‑effective service.

Working with Zonar, the division installed vehicle tracking and telematics (Ground Traffic Control and V3/V4 units), received training and ongoing support, and used the system to document driver performance in the field. Since implementing Zonar in 2010, complaints about missed collections and speeding have fallen to nearly zero, supervisor processes are streamlined, drivers are often exonerated by recorded data, morale has improved, and the program has saved time, fuel and money while helping the operation win national recognition.
