Open source networking vendor automates backup

Vyatta, an open source networking vendor, needed a more reliable and scalable backup approach for its growing Linux-based environment. Its IT team had been using custom Linux dump scripts, but those scripts were hard to maintain, didn’t scale well as new servers were added, and consumed significant resources. Vyatta evaluated several backup options before choosing Zmanda’s Amanda Enterprise Edition and Recovery Manager for MySQL.

With Zmanda, Vyatta deployed a Web-based backup solution across two backup servers and ten clients, making it easy to add new servers, manage schedules, generate reports, and run full plus incremental backups. The result was simpler administration, smooth recovery, and better peace of mind for the IT team; Vyatta also noted that all systems are backed up at least weekly and that Zmanda support was fast and highly effective.
