Amanda Enterprise backs up rapidly changing mission-critical data to a tape autoloader

Zen Innovations, operator of the Global Trade Tracker web-based trade statistics platform, needed a backup solution for rapidly growing, mission-critical data across multiple systems. Its earlier approach relied on scripts, cron jobs, and manual procedures, which had become too complex, not scalable, and too costly to support fast recovery with minimal intervention. Zen Innovations evaluated Amanda Enterprise from zmanda as a lower-cost, multi-platform backup option.

zmanda implemented Amanda Enterprise on a backup server running SUSE Linux Enterprise Server, protecting SLES, Solaris, Mac OS X, and Windows systems and backing up data to a Sun StorageTek SL 24 Tape Autoloader. The solution simplified administration through the Zmanda Management Console, reduced workload for the systems engineer, and enabled reliable nightly backups of about 650 GB. As a result, Zen Innovations gained peace of mind that its critical corporate data was safe and recoverable.
