National Archives & Records Administration - Customer Case Study

The National Archives & Records Administration (NARA) needed a cloud-based records management solution after moving to Gmail, with goals to archive emails securely, improve end-user access, and support eDiscovery and FOIA requests. NARA also wanted to establish a federal records management standard that other agencies could follow. ZL Technologies’ ZL UA platform was selected to meet these requirements.

ZL Technologies implemented ZL UA with Records Manager, Discovery Manager, Storage Manager, and Gmail journaling/crawling in a single-tenant cloud environment. The solution enabled NARA to capture Gmail email, calendar, task, and metadata content, support the Capstone records management approach, and streamline classification using Gmail labels. As a result, NARA gained a unified platform for archiving, records management, and eDiscovery across 5,300 mailboxes and more than 240 million messages, while eliminating data silos and maintaining consistent retention and search.
