IoT Guardian Gives Medical Center Holistic Risk Visibility and Operational Benefits

University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics, an academic medical center with more than 45,000 devices to secure, needed a better way to identify all devices in its environment, assess risk continuously, and comply with federal regulations without relying on highly manual inventory processes. The security team also wanted better visibility into IoT and medical device behavior to improve operational oversight. To address these needs, the hospital turned to Zingbox and its IoT Guardian solution.

Zingbox implemented IoT Guardian to provide real-time device inventory, behavioral baselining, and holistic risk visibility across the network. The platform quickly revealed suspicious activity during the proof of concept, including two ultrasounds attempting to communicate with an international IP address, which helped trigger a manufacturer response and reduce exposure to a known attack vector. As a result, University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics gained faster threat detection, improved HIPAA risk assessment readiness, and operational benefits such as better device utilization tracking and easier recall management, all with low management overhead.
