IoT Guardian Gives Community College System-wide Visibility and Flexibility

Waubonsee Community College needed better visibility and control over the security of hundreds of IoT-enabled devices across its four Illinois campuses and online learning environment. As its network grew more open and connected, Information Security Manager Tarun Trivedi faced the challenge of identifying each device’s type, baseline behavior, and risk status without disrupting day-to-day campus operations. Zingbox IoT Guardian was selected to address these concerns.

Zingbox implemented a phased, agent-less deployment that monitored specific device groups and VLANs first, then expanded coverage across the network with zero disruption and no hardware or software changes. The solution provided visibility into approximately 1,000 devices across 40 device types, enabled real-time risk monitoring, and flagged unusual behavior such as a printer communicating externally for updates in violation of policy. With Zingbox, Waubonsee gained comprehensive IoT security reporting and stronger protection while preserving flexible, collaborative learning.
