Softpay, a Denmark‑based payments company, offers a SoftPOS Tap‑to‑Phone solution that turns Android phones into contactless payment terminals. When a ransomware attack knocked out payment systems at all 176 Danish 7‑Eleven stores, Softpay — working with Zimperium — faced the urgent challenge of restoring secure payment acceptance without dedicated hardware.
Zimperium hardened the Softpay app using its Mobile Application Protection Suite (MAPS) — including zShield, zKeybox, and zDefend — to provide code obfuscation, white‑box key protection, and on‑device threat detection. This integration let Softpay deploy emergency Tap‑to‑Phone kits the day after the attack so 176 stores could accept cards and mobile wallets (Apple Pay, Google Pay), maintained PCI integrity, and made key extraction infeasible (taking months for attackers), enabling rapid, secure continuity of payments.
