Université de Lorraine Vastly Improves Email for End Users and Administrators with Zimbra Collaboration

Université de Lorraine, a regional French university serving over 55,000 students across 42 facilities and supported by thousands of faculty and staff, needed to replace a patchwork of open-source email tools with a private, secure, and mobile-ready platform. Key administrative requirements included integration with Ceph storage, better logging and auditability, easier account provisioning and much faster backup and restore times for a large environment of 90,000 mailboxes.

The university deployed Zimbra Collaboration with the Zimbra–Ceph Connector by Beezim, delivering secure web and mobile access (with offline mode and easy sharing), detailed logs and admin auditing, SOAP-API provisioning and MTA integration. Backups that once took over 12 hours now complete in minutes with near-instant restores via Ceph snapshots, migrations occur without service interruption, and administrators report improved performance and manageability at scale while planning further integrations.
