SOLARKIOSK, a Berlin-based energy company that builds clean-energy kiosks and fosters local entrepreneurship in Base-of-the-Pyramid communities, outgrew its hosted email platform as it expanded across six countries. The team needed stronger collaboration and calendar functionality—especially for its African offices—and required an on-prem solution because it would not store content in the cloud; meeting planning had become costly and inefficient.
SOLARKIOSK deployed Zimbra Collaboration on-prem (Linux-based) to address these needs, using mail forwarding, aliases, distribution lists, auto-responders, shared calendars and a popular web client. The switch improved meeting organization and communication, reduced IT administration, lowered TCO through no OS licensing fees and less hardware, and led the company to evaluate additional Zimbra features like archiving and chat.
