Policlinico Abano Group is a network of modern medical facilities across northern and central Italy with about 1,400 staff. Facing stricter GDPR and data-sovereignty needs, the group found its existing Zimbra Open Source Edition lacked critical features—real-time backup and restore, hierarchical storage management, ActiveSync and other enterprise capabilities—and wanted a cloud-hosted email solution based in Italy to guarantee privacy and compliance.

They upgraded with Italian partner ilger.com to Zimbra Network Edition, gaining robust backup/restore options, enhanced security and privacy, ActiveSync and extensibility via Zimlets (including ilger.com’s ZPGP for end-to-end encryption) hosted on ISO‑certified servers. The move delivered data sovereignty and GDPR compliance at lower cost than many cloud alternatives, restored enterprise-grade functionality, and positioned the group to add features like Zimbra Talk.
