IIJ powers 5 million mailboxes with Zimbra

IIJ, Internet Initiative Japan Inc., a major Japanese internet service provider, needed a scalable and proven email platform to power its IIJ xSP Platform Service/Mail offering for consumer ISP customers. Their previous homegrown solution could not meet their expanding requirements, and they required access to source code to provide high-grade service. This led them to choose Zimbra over other options.

By implementing Zimbra's open-source platform, IIJ gained a stable and scalable solution that could be easily customized. The vendor's software allowed IIJ to successfully launch their multi-tenant hosted email service, which now supports approximately 5 million mailboxes for its first major customer. Zimbra provided the necessary large mailbox support, easy-to-use webmail, and the critical access to source code that enabled IIJ to offer a superior service to its ISP clients.
