ENSICAEN Drops Dovecot/Postfix/Sogo – Opts for Zimbra’s Easier Administration and Better Collaboration

ENSICAEN, a national graduate engineering school in Caen, France, faced mounting IT strain from a patchwork email system built on Dovecot/Postfix/Sogo. The mix was time-consuming to administer for a small IT team, forced users onto many different desktop clients, and lacked collaboration tools like shared calendars, tasks and file briefcases—while heavy POP use risked data loss.

With Zimbra Collaboration (via partner StarXpert and educational pricing), ENSICAEN migrated about 1,400 accounts and standardized on the Zimbra web client and services. Post-migration 95% of users rely on the web client (desktop clients fell to 5%), POP use dropped from 70% to 5%, and staff report greater productivity and mobility thanks to shared calendars, tasks and briefcase features—while administrators benefit from cross-platform support, stability and much lower maintenance.
