A Zimbra Case Study
The Conseil départemental of Seine‑Saint‑Denis (93) is a French local government body with about 8,000 officials that needed to replace an aging Domino mail system that was causing frequent reliability problems and lacked modern features like mobile synchronization. The department issued a public tender seeking a cost‑effective, secure, and scalable collaboration platform to support email, calendars and mobile access.
After evaluating options, the CD selected Zimbra and worked with a certified reseller for deployment and skills transfer. Zimbra’s open‑source core delivered improved reliability, easier administration, strong security controls and lower total cost than Domino or Exchange; adoption was seamless, user feedback was positive, and productivity and efficiency have steadily improved while plans continue for S/MIME and enhanced file‑sharing integrations.
