Badan Informasi Geospasial (BIG) is Indonesia’s government agency responsible for managing and distributing national geospatial data. Facing the need for a more professional, secure and network-integrated email system, BIG found its previous qmail setup lacked archiving, clustering, admin delegation, hierarchical storage management and collaboration features for its staff of about 750 mailboxes.

BIG implemented Zimbra (via regional partner PT. Excellent Infotama Kreasindo) to provide a secure, scalable collaboration platform with fine‑grained authorization, email, calendar, instant messaging, Zimlets integration and third‑party security support. The deployment resolved privacy and reliability issues, improved productivity and scheduling, and BIG plans to expand to 1,500+ mailboxes while adding chat, video, mobile features, ownCloud integration and backup capabilities.
