A Zigzag Case Study
The public transport association for the Stuttgart metropolitan area, VVS, faced the challenge of making real-time departure data accessible to all travelers at every one of its 4000 stops, as only a quarter were equipped with digital displays. VVS approached zigzag to bridge this gap between their analog infrastructure and digital needs.
zigzag developed the "Smarte Haltestelle" mobile application, which uses augmented reality and machine learning to detect stop signs via a smartphone camera and extract station information to display real-time departures. The solution also provides a list of the closest stops. The app was successfully launched on iOS and Android, achieving over 10,000 downloads on the Play Store and receiving positive user feedback for its simplicity.
