Case Study: Virgin Atlantic achieves efficient aircraft parts tracking with Zetes RFID

A Zetes Case Study

Virgin Atlantic's RFID pilot takes off with Zetes

Virgin Atlantic Airways worked with Zetes to tackle the challenge of finding a more economical and reliable way to track the lifecycle of aircraft parts across its logistics centres at Heathrow and Gatwick. The airline wanted to replace manual data entry and barcode labeling with a solution that could improve speed, efficiency, and accuracy in its engineering and warehouse operations.

Zetes implemented a pilot RFID solution called TRIM, supplying AIDC equipment and systems including handheld readers, wireless LAN infrastructure, RFID printers, and specialized applications. The trial enabled Virgin Atlantic to tag parts on warehouse entry and track them through receipt to dispatch, helping the airline evaluate RFID’s suitability for aviation asset tracking and make an informed decision on fleet airworthiness management.
