A Zerto Case Study

Zerto guarantees the perfect functioning of a complex IT structure

The Western Ligurian Sea Port Authority (Ports of Genoa), which unifies the major Italian ports of Genoa, Pra, Savona and Vado Ligure, needed to manage a large, complex IT estate after its 2016 integration. With dozens of terminals, heavy cargo and cruise traffic, and significant naval services, the authority required an innovative, resilient architecture to support administration, ensure continuity and migrate operations to a new headquarters without disruption.

The authority implemented two active-active data centers and used Zerto to cross-replicate virtual machines on VMware, eliminate physical servers and enable seamless data center migration. When a fire destroyed the Savona offices in 2018, Zerto’s failover kept data intact and restored services within hours with virtually no data loss; the same setup proved critical during a subsequent storm surge. The result was easier management, near-zero downtime for migrations, reliable disaster recovery and stronger operational resilience.
