A Zerto Case Study
Surrey County Council (SCC) is one of the UK’s largest local authorities, delivering services to more than 1.2 million residents across 11 councils. Faced with shrinking backup windows, the need to meet strict SLAs across four tiers of applications (many life‑critical), and a target to cut costs by at least £500,000 over five years, SCC required a robust, low‑risk DR and backup approach with minimal production impact.
SCC consolidated backup and disaster recovery using Zerto Virtual Replication, enabling continuous replication, offsite cloning and automated protection for 420 VMs. RPOs fell to seconds (≈20s) and RTOs to minutes (≈5min), 140 TB of VM data is cloned offsite without production overhead, and the legacy backup (IBM Tivoli) was retired — delivering over £800,000 in projected five‑year savings while simplifying operations so a single administrator now manages protection.
