A Zerto Case Study
A Midwestern university healthcare system — serving more than 600,000 patients annually across 7 hospitals and 80+ outpatient sites with $2.9B in revenue and 2,000+ VMs — consolidated its hospital and medical foundation IT environments. The unified IT team inherited nine storage arrays and four different protection tools, which made locating and restoring data slow and unreliable; the organization routinely missed required RTOs/RPOs and VM restores could take four to five hours.
The system implemented Zerto’s IT Resilience Platform to replace multiple backup, migration and DR tools. Zerto enabled continuous data protection and journal-based recovery, dramatically accelerating migrations (one engineer moved 400 VMs in under a week), reducing VM move time to minutes or an hour, and allowing point-in-time restores (a flooded server was rebuilt in five minutes). The result was simplified operations, elimination of a separate backup vendor, protection across all application tiers, and lower costs.
