A ZeroFox Case Study
Ivy League University, a prestigious Northeastern school serving over 18,000 students with a $10B+ endowment, was facing a growing set of social-media risks—applicant and fake-diploma scams, domain squatting, account hijacking, FERPA exposures, offensive posts and potential physical threats—outside the reach of its existing security stack. To close that blind spot the university engaged ZeroFox and began using the ZeroFOX platform (SaaS) in mid‑2017.
ZeroFox deployed its social and digital protection platform—leveraging diverse data sources, AI/machine learning and takedown capabilities—to monitor tens of thousands of posts, images, links and accounts monthly and deliver focused alerts (just under 10 quality alerts per day, ~270/month). The engagement produced dozens of successful takedowns, uncovered threats on unexpected sites (e.g., Tumblr, Pastebin), enabled multilingual violence-threat detection, and drove a measurable 30% month‑over‑month reduction in diploma scams while extending protection for administrators, events, athletics and the broader campus community.
