Select Plant Hire cuts diesel use by 96% with Zenobē

Select Plant Hire, a plant hire company, faced significant challenges powering tower cranes at a major Birmingham construction site. Their original setup relied on multiple, inefficient diesel generators that were costly, created high emissions, and were complex to operate. The situation was worsened by delays in accessing the temporary grid supply, creating an urgent need for an interim power solution. Zenobē was engaged to address these issues.

Zenobē implemented a solution using three of its portable PowerSkid battery systems to create a hybrid power setup. This system charged during off-peak hours and discharged to efficiently support the cranes, drastically reducing generator use. The results were substantial: a 98% reduction in diesel use, avoiding 108,000 litres of fuel and 284,000kg of CO2 emissions, while also delivering net savings of £147,000. Zenobē's portable battery system proved to be a scalable and effective clean power solution for the construction site.
