National Express extends battery life by 30% with Zenobē

National Express, a multinational transport operator, sought to electrify its bus depot in Coventry to reduce carbon emissions and lower operating costs as part of its plan to become a zero carbon bus company by 2030. To meet this challenge, they partnered with vendor Zenobē for an end-to-end electrification solution.

Zenobē implemented a fully funded solution that included financing, batteries, chargers, and management software. A key innovation was the deployment of the UK's first second-life battery application, which repurposed used bus batteries into a 1MW/1.2MWh stationary storage system. This project by Zenobē reduced emissions and operating costs, saving an estimated 252 tonnes of NOx and 936 kg of COx from entering the atmosphere annually.
