Cardiff Bus rolls out 36 electric buses with Zenobē

Cardiff Bus, a public transport operator, was awarded funding to introduce its first electric buses but faced the challenge of upgrading its depot's insufficient electrical infrastructure to support the new fleet. The operator engaged vendor Zenobē to design and build a complete charging solution, overcoming the significant upfront costs and operational disruption.

Zenobē implemented an end-to-end solution that included financing and managing a grid connection upgrade, installing 18 chargers and a smart charging system, and providing a bespoke Power Purchase Agreement. This allowed Cardiff Bus to avoid large capital expenditure, optimize energy costs using cheaper night-time tariffs, and focus on its daily operations. The vendor's 15-year 'as-a-service' support agreement ensures long-term operational management of the infrastructure.
