A Zello Case Study
Henderson County Emergency Services, serving a community of about 125,000 people across 375 square miles, faced challenges with traditional radio communications. Limitations from building construction and geographic coverage areas, especially when personnel traveled across the state for mutual aid, hindered reliable communication. To address this, the team implemented an interoperability gateway and partnered with Zello to interface their radio system with the cloud.
The solution from Zello augmented the existing radio system, allowing personnel to use Wi-Fi and cellular networks to maintain contact in traditional radio fringe areas. This enabled clear communication back to the home office and with other agencies during statewide disaster responses. Zello's talk groups reduced the reliance on cumbersome group texts and decreased the need to widely distribute expensive radio equipment, improving coordination and operational efficiency.
