Troy Design & Manufacturing Company Real-Time RFID Tracking and Automation Spread Efficiency and Visibility

Troy Design & Manufacturing Company (TDM), a Detroit‑based Ford subsidiary operating a Chicago Modification Center, converts more than 150 Ford base models into police interceptors each day. To meet high-volume targets and eliminate slow, error‑prone paper tracking, TDM needed a hands‑off, real‑time system to monitor and guide every step of the vehicle conversion process.

Partnering with Lowry Solutions, TDM implemented Zebra FX9500 fixed RFID readers, AN200 antennas and handheld scanners integrated with Lowry’s WIP software and middleware to tag and track vehicles by VIN. The RFID solution provides real‑time visibility and automated workflow guidance, streamlines operators’ tasks, reduces paper and manual entry, improves read rates and consistency, cuts workstation time, prevents downtime and has automated over 90% of operations.
