Case Study: Louis Widmer achieves EU Falsified Medicines Directive compliance with Zebra Technologies

A Zebra Case Study

Preview of the Louis Widmer Case Study

Swiss Pharmaceutical And Cosmetics Manufacturer Ensures Anti-counterfeiting Compliance

Louis Widmer SA is a Swiss family-owned cosmetics and pharmaceutical manufacturer that needed a high-speed, modular serialisation system for its prescription medicines to meet the EU Falsified Medicines Directive. Because prescription products are a smaller part of its portfolio, the company required a turnkey, independent solution that could be easily installed, removed or scaled without altering existing packaging systems, and engaged partners BetterTec, Collamat and Zebra to deliver it.

BetterTec deployed a bespoke SaaS and Zebra hardware solution: BetterID for random serial generation, BetterPack running on Zebra ET50/MC33 devices with MP7000 scanning, Collamat Ü25 tamper‑evident labeling, and BetterBase to convert and upload compliant XML data to the European Hub. The result is a fast, flexible, stand‑alone system that records and activates serial numbers, applies tamper labels, enables EU-wide verification, and delivers ongoing monitoring, security and user support while preserving existing packaging processes.
