Marexi Marine Technology Sorts Tuna With Accuracy Rates Approaching 100%

Marexi Marine Technology, a Spain‑based leader in marine machine vision for over 15 years, developed the patented TUNASCAN system to automate a difficult task: reliably classifying frozen tuna by species, size and quality at industrial speeds. Visual differences between species are nearly indistinguishable once frozen, so Marexi needed an accurate, robust and easy‑to‑use solution that could operate continuously in harsh, salty, low‑temperature processing environments.

TUNASCAN pairs Zebra AltiZ high‑fidelity 3D profile sensors with Aurora imaging and machine‑learning algorithms, using dual‑sensor 3D point clouds plus ultrasonic and infrared triggers to capture fast‑moving fish. The system sorts up to 20 tons of tuna per hour with accuracy approaching 100%, requires minimal maintenance during long production runs, and offers a simple operator interface to manage species and weight‑based outputs.
