Hull University Teaching Hospital Saves Time and Money and Optimises Workflows with Zebra Technologies, the Barcode Warehouse and Tagnos

Hull University Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust, a large university teaching trust operating across two campuses (~1.3 million sq ft) with around 8,000 clinical staff, needed to optimise tracking and management of critical medical equipment and patient belongings to reduce wasted staff time, prevent cancelled procedures and improve patient care.

Working with Zebra, Tagnos and The Barcode Warehouse the Trust deployed a large RFID RTLS solution—fixed readers and antennas, handheld RFID sleds, TC52‑HC mobile computers, industrial printers, >100k RFID labels and MotionWorks for Healthcare—labeling over 72,000 assets and tracking 2,700 sterile trays weekly. The system delivers real‑time asset visibility, better procurement decisions and risk management, saves an estimated ~88,000 staff hours, reduces costs and is projected to pay back within about two years while enabling future use cases like patient belongings tracking.
