How Waitrose Enhances its Store Experience with Self-Scanning

Waitrose & Partners, part of the employee‑owned John Lewis Partnership and operator of over 300 supermarkets and convenience stores across the UK, has long offered a self‑scan “Quick Check” service. To stay at the forefront of in‑store innovation and better integrate in‑store and online services, Waitrose set out to update its personal shopping devices and modernize the self‑scan platform.

Waitrose rolled out Quick Check 4 across its estate along with 10,000 Zebra MC18 personal shopping devices, supported by Zebra professional services and a Zebra OneCare contract fulfilled by Computacenter. The new platform delivered faster, more reliable scanning, stronger Wi‑Fi and longer battery life, driving increased usage, quicker checkouts, widespread adoption for contactless shopping during COVID‑19, and a robust foundation for further service enhancements.
