Cyprus Government Accelerates Visitor Checks with Fast, Accurate Scanning of Digital COVID Certificates

The Deputy Ministry of Research, Innovation and Digital Policy in Cyprus needed to speed up and secure verification of EU Digital COVID Certificates for millions of visitors at airports, ports and busy venues. Relying on consumer smartphones proved slow, error-prone and fragile—leading to long queues, failed reads and poor battery life—so the government sought a reliable, long-term mobile scanning solution.

Working with Datatech, Cyprus deployed Zebra TC26 rugged mobile computers running a customized SafePass app plus Mobility DNA tools (Enterprise Home Screen, StageNow), a secure VPN and SOTI device management. The integrated scanner delivered fast, accurate reads (even of damaged codes), devices were staged in three weeks, queues were reduced, officer and visitor experiences improved, and the government gained a secure, manageable solution built for long-term use.
