Cepheid eliminates 7,000 manual transactions with Zebra RFID Grab & Go

Cepheid, a global leader in molecular diagnostics, faced a challenge in speeding up the delivery of its PCR test kits and increasing supply chain velocity. Scientists and manufacturing associates were spending excessive time manually handling raw materials, which limited productivity. To address this, Cepheid worked with vendor Zebra and its partner InThing to implement an RFID-based solution.

Zebra's solution established a "Grab & Go" RFID system that automated the tracking of raw materials across 18 labs, integrating directly with SAP ERP. This eliminated over 28,000 yearly touchpoints and 7,000 manual transactions. According to Cepheid's director, the project resulted in productivity savings skyrocketing by over 1,000% in less than a year, allowing staff to focus more on critical R&D and production work.
