A Zebra Case Study
Bonita Springs Fire Control & Rescue District serves nearly 80,000 residents from seven firehouses on Florida’s southwest coast, responding to more than 7,000 calls a year. The District manages thousands of critical assets—from ALS apparatuses and firefighting equipment to medical supplies—and struggled with a manual, time-consuming inventory process that risked over-ordering, expired medications, regulatory noncompliance and diverted personnel time from emergency response.
Working with Silent Partner and Zebra, the District deployed Zebra RFD8500 handheld RFID sleds and converted storage areas into RFID-enabled “smart rooms,” enabling real-time tracking of quantities and expiration dates across stations and vehicles. The automated system cut inventory time by over 95%, reduced disposables and medication costs by 50%, achieved 100% ROI in year one, improved medication safety and reporting (including FEMA reimbursement and COVID-19 PPE tracking), and freed staff to focus more on training and frontline response.
