Blain’s Farm & Fleet, a 45-location specialty retailer in the Midwest, needed a modern scheduling solution after relying on an outdated system from the early 1990s. With large-format stores, multiple departments and a goal to improve the digital experience for frontline associates and reduce turnover, the company sought better labor forecasting, visibility and mobile access for managers and staff.
Blain’s implemented Zebra Workcloud Scheduling and the Workcloud Employee Self-Service app so associates can view schedules, punch in, request time off, swap or advertise shifts and managers can import labor models to align forecasts with store budgets. The change delivered a 7% reduction in labor hours in the first year (sustained since), improved sales per labor hour and better wage-to-sales metrics, while giving employees greater scheduling flexibility and visibility.
