CenturyLink Deploys Edge Cloud Solution for Data Archiving

CenturyLink was asked to help a manufacturer in Taiwan stage and archive extremely large image datasets — up to 3 PB per month, with a four‑year retention totaling roughly 144 PB — while delivering an on‑premises “edge” staging solution and a pay‑as‑you‑go OpEx model. To meet this requirement CenturyLink selected Zadara Storage’s enterprise storage‑as‑a‑service to provide local staging, advanced data services, and cloud archiving capabilities.

CenturyLink and Zadara Storage deployed a 2 PB Zadara on‑premises cache in Taiwan connected via a CenturyLink 10G circuit to AWS Tokyo West, using Zadara’s Backup to Object Storage (B2OS) and local Docker‑based compression to move data into AWS S3 and ultimately Glacier for long‑term archive. The joint solution met performance and financial targets, enabled required four‑year retention and disaster recovery, and is growing the archive at roughly 1 PB per month.
