SEB bank discovers 205 log metrics with Zabbix

SEB Bank, a major financial services group in Northern Europe, faced significant log monitoring challenges during the unification of its IT platform across three Baltic countries. Different systems and tools in each region created a complex environment, and valuable monitoring data was trapped in logs of varying frequency and structure. To achieve a unified monitoring solution, SEB Bank chose to implement Zabbix.

The solution implemented by Zabbix leveraged custom 'UserParameter' capabilities and Low-Level Discovery (LLD) to automatically create monitoring objects from log data. This approach, combined with the use of Zabbix agent 2 for concurrent processing, allowed SEB to extract complex metrics, such as mobile app request durations, and automatically create triggers. Zabbix's flexibility was a game-changer, making it possible to monitor hundreds of discovered items and new patterns instantly, which provided critical insights into IT ecosystem performance and business functions.
