NIFTY needed a better way to monitor its large VMware virtualized environment, since its earlier Perl scripts for collecting data from vCenter Server were slow and placed extra load on the server. NIFTY turned to Zabbix Development Services and Zabbix to help create direct monitoring for vSphere ESXi and the virtual machines running on it.

Zabbix delivered virtualized environment monitoring functions in Zabbix 2.2, enabling NIFTY to collect CPU, memory, and network data at 5-minute intervals and track VM placement and movement during vMotion/DRS events. NIFTY later worked with Zabbix to fix scale-related issues and performance bugs, and by early 2015 it was using Zabbix 2.4 for full-scale VMware monitoring across one of the world’s largest virtual machine environments.
