KDDI’s Cloud Platform Service (KCPS) is a business-grade IaaS built on Citrix CloudPlatform that needed a scalable, flexible monitoring flow to detect and restore problems quickly across a large, multi-tenant environment. The challenge was to integrate an enterprise-grade monitoring solution with CloudPlatform, automatically manage application monitoring for roughly 20,000 hosts, and improve operational efficiency and uptime while minimizing manual checks and false alerts.

KDDI implemented Zabbix at scale—about 40 servers monitoring ~20,000 hosts, ~400,000 items and ~800,000 triggers—linked automatically to CloudPlatform with help from IBS and using templates and automation to tune performance and avoid spurious alerts. The result was seamless CloudStack integration, improved efficiency and performance, stronger support and customizable monitoring, and sustained high availability (KCPS recorded a 99.9999% operating ratio in the measured period).
