A Zabbix Case Study
HARP Co., Ltd., a third-sector provider of cloud-based ASP/SaaS services for Hokkaido and other local governments, needed to consolidate disparate monitoring systems, reduce operational load and licensing costs, and support a wide range of OS and network devices as its services and virtualized infrastructure expanded. Existing ad-hoc tools and capacity limits made centralized, scalable and secure monitoring a priority, along with faster data retention/deletion and clearer visibility across services.
HARP standardized on open-source Zabbix, migrating to Zabbix 5.0 with TimescaleDB and deploying two Zabbix servers and ten proxies to monitor ~1,000 devices (7,000 triggers, ~30,000 items), while trimming unnecessary items to improve efficiency. The move cut costs, unified monitoring, improved performance and deletion processes, leveraged community and enterprise support for smoother operations, and positioned HARP to scale monitoring further and offer managed monitoring and security checks to local governments.
