Washington State uses YubiKeys to protect critical election infrastructure

The US State of Washington needed a secure way to protect access to election infrastructure without relying on a mobile-based MFA solution, since leaders were concerned about staff, including seasonal workers, using personal devices for government business. The state worked with Yubico and chose YubiKeys to support secure access for its election operations.

Yubico helped Washington implement YubiKeys as part of its new VoteWA statewide elections management system, which supports same-day voting and connects election systems across all 39 counties. The result was a more secure approach to election infrastructure access, reducing dependence on personal mobile devices while strengthening statewide election security.
