Schneider Electric strengthens supply chain security and achieves IEC-62443 SL2 with Yubico

Schneider Electric, a global leader in energy management and automation, faced the challenge of integrating multi-factor authentication (MFA) into its isolated power operations SCADA systems without using the internet or traditional methods like SMS. Their goal was to enhance security for critical infrastructure and proactively secure their global supply chain against counterfeit products. They turned to vendor Yubico for a solution.

Yubico provided its YubiKey devices for secure operator authentication and the YubiHSM hardware security module to integrate into the manufacturing process. The solution enabled MFA for secure system access during shift changes and created a dual encryption process with suppliers to ensure product authenticity. As a result, Schneider Electric enhanced its SCADA security, positioned itself for future IEC-62443 SL3 certification, and secured a portion of its global supply chain, giving customers confidence in the authenticity of its products.
