New York Air National Guard rolls out YubiKey to 1,700 users with Yubico

The New York Air National Guard, which operates a variety of air and rescue missions, faced a challenge authenticating its retired personnel who no longer had access to a Common Access Card (CAC). These individuals relied on weak username and password authentication to access critical healthcare and financial services, a system that was insecure and did not function well in mobile-restricted environments. The organization turned to Yubico for a stronger solution.

Yubico provided the YubiKey to deliver strong multi-factor authentication. The solution was implemented in phases, starting with a test for 15 senior leaders to provide immediate secure access. The plan was to scale to 50 more users and then 1,700 users by the end of the first quarter of 2021. This provided the Guard with strong security for remote workers, an effective defense against phishing, and an enhanced user experience.
